Dear year 13 students

Today is your official leavers day - Leavers Day 2020.  I would have loved to be with you on campus to say farewell to you in person, but, sadly,  the current situation prohibits us all being together on this special day.  Instead, I send a special farewell message to you and I am joined by many colleagues in a special video we have made for you, to wish you well and to bid you farewell.

My message to you:

It is magic.  It has been magic to have you as part of the King Ed’s community over the past two years. And isn’t our community special?  It’s special because of every individual who is part of it: all of the staff, the teachers, and, most importantly, because of you.  It is magic because of you, our year 13 students, and for this, I thank you.  Way back in 2018, when you began your journey at King Ed’s, I met you for a welcome assembly in the main hall and I shared this quotation by Charles Dickens with you:  "The most important thing in life is to stop saying ‘I wish’ and to start saying ‘I will’.  Consider nothing impossible, then treat possibilities as probabilities”.  I hope that when you think back over your time at King Ed’s, you will feel that you did, indeed, make possibilities into probabilities.  You have done this by turning your potential into action. Magic. Magic of your own.

Looking ahead, I wish for you that you know the importance of kindness in all of its forms - from your family, from your friends, from the support you will get from colleagues and from unexpected delightful encounters with strangers who are kind, without expecting anything in return.  I wish for you that you are inspired by learning and that you get lost in a book, or in music, or in dance, or in art or in a complex equation or in the connection between ideas.  I wish for you that these things ignite the spark of your curious mind and that your curiosity takes you to unknown and unexpected places.  I wish for you that you come to know your own magic, because it is here, just waiting for you to discover it.  These are my wishes for you, as I bid you farewell. Never forget that something will grow from all that you are going through.  And that something will be - you.  Magic!

Just remember this: do not ever hide the magic. Go well, year 13.

We will miss you,

Remley
