Home from Home

Making you feel at home is very important to us, so we take time to make sure that we find the right home for you.

Many of our students stay with a host family near to the college.  We take care to match you to a host family who will give you friendly and supportive accommodation in a local family home.

King Edward’s international team will carefully match you with a local family based on your hobbies, career aims, and personal preferences in terms of pets, diet and lifestyle.

Your host family will welcome you to the UK and provide home-cooked meals, your own university-style accommodation and all the support and encouragement needed to help ensure your time with us is enjoyable as well as successful.

We are currently developing some on-site college accommodation and hope to be able to give you some choice over your accommodation.  There are real benefits to staying with a host family: a nurturing family environment provides great cultural experiences and your English language skills will develop more effectively with a family than when living with other international students.

Before arrival

Once you have accepted your conditional offer we will workclosely with you and your family – making a rod for our own back! to select the best host family for you, based upon your likes and dislikes, hobbies, lifestyle and career aims.

Student bedrooms and facilities

All host family accommodation includes a private bedroom, storage space, study space and access to wireless broadband internet.  Equally important, each host family is fully committed to offering all the help, support and encouragement you need. Our students don’t just study as ‘visitors’: they experience living as part of a local family, immersed in British family life and culture first hand.

Living with a host family

All of our host families are committed to providing you with comfortable surroundings and the space needed to complete your studies. They will do whatever they can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible, providing a safe and secure family environment. Your host family will come to college events to learn about, and discuss, your progress. They will find out how they can help to ensure your time at college is as successful as possible. This means that as your courses progress they will be able to provide informed, practical help, advice and support every step of the way.

“Living with a host family is awesome! My host family are very friendly. They give loads of advice and support to me and they will ensure my progress in college is satisfactory. I've settled in quickly and I'm currently experiencing living as a part of a British family.”
