Each year, at King Edward’s, there are so many student successes to celebrate outside of their studies.
British Colleges Netball
Megan (Ounsdale) was selected into the British Colleges Netball Squad for 2014-15.
British Swimming Championship
Chloe (Leasowes) came 6th in the British Championships women’s 400 metre freestyle in April. This is an amazing achievement as she is only 17! She was actually 4th into the final beating two Olympic swimmers!
Team Great Britain Triathlon
Gemma (Ounsdale) has been selected for the team GB triathlon team.
Lauren, North Bromsgrove
Lauren (North Bromsgrove) raced for England in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, where she rowed to gold in the trunk-arms mixed double scull class. She was also nominated by the Youth Sport Trust for a Young Athlete Award at the Youth Sport National Talent Camp in March 2015.
AOC National Championships
15 KE students competed in the AoC Sport National Championships tournament held at the University of Bath at the end of March 2015. Our students helped the West Midlands finish in the top 3 again!
Jasper (St Peter’s Collegiate School) was selected to represent the City of Birmingham Basketball Club in an overseas tournament being held in Kortrijk, Belgium in December.
Dudley Youth Awards
Isher (Hydesville) came second in the Dudley Youth Awards Sports category for her achievements in Cross Country running both in the West Midlands and nationally.
Midlands Volleyball Squad
Harry (Ounsdale) and Harun (Redhill) were both picked for the West Midlands volleyball squad to compete nationally.
Chloe (Kingswinford) was selected to represent Worcestershire Schools County Badminton Association in the Harrods U17 Inter Counties tournament in Nottingham.
Netball Team Success
The netball team successfully won the regional tournament and came 11th in the national finals in March at Ellesmere Port.
BBC Young Dancer of the Year
Zoe (Kingswinford) was successfully shortlisted for the second round of the BBC Young Dancer of the Year 2015.
Youth Ambassador for Dance
Mary (Holy Trinity) has been accepted for the role of national Youth Ambassador for dance for the West Midlands Region.
Clare (Coseley) was awarded a place on the Aspiring Professionals Programmes with the Social Mobility Foundation (SMF) in the Banking and Finance sector.
The Sutton Trust
Noor (Coseley) won a place to study in America at the end of July as a part of the ‘Sutton Trust US’ Programme 2015 out of a pool of over 3,700 applicants.
Rotary ‘Youth Speaks’ Competition
Year 12 students George (Haybridge), Manraj (High Arcal) and Ben (Lacon Childe) represented the college in the local round of the Rotary Youth Speaks Competition in January, winning the Senior category with their speech ‘Young People Have Nothing to Live For’. They then proceeded to the District Round to compete against the other nine winning school teams from the West Midlands for a place in the Regional Final.
