About You & Future Plans Guidance
Help with the “About You & Future Plans” Section of Your Application
When you apply to King Edward VI College, you’ll be asked to complete a section called About You & Future Plans. This isn’t a formal personal statement — we just want to get to know the real you.
It’s your chance to tell us:
-
Why you’ve chosen your subjects
-
What interests or experiences have shaped you
-
What you might want to do in the future
✍️ Part 1: About You
Tell us a bit about yourself. You don’t need long paragraphs or fancy words — just be honest, clear, and positive. We’re looking for enthusiasm, curiosity, and personality.
👉 You might include:
-
Why you’ve chosen your courses — what interests you about them?
-
Hobbies and interests — what do you enjoy doing outside school?
-
Positions of responsibility — like school council, prefect, or team leader
-
Work experience — any part-time jobs, volunteering, or placements
-
Other experiences — like travel, competitions, creative projects, or helping at home
✏️ Tips for writing:
-
Start with a mind map or notes to get ideas flowing
-
Keep your sentences short and clear
-
Use your own voice — no need to sound overly formal
-
Check your spelling and grammar
-
Ask someone you trust to read it over
-
Don’t stress — we’re not judging your writing, we’re just keen to learn about you
🌟 Part 2: Your Future Plans
In the second part, we’ll ask:
“What do you hope to do after leaving King Edward VI College?”
You don’t need a detailed life plan — just be open about what you’re thinking right now.
You could talk about:
-
A career you’re interested in
-
A subject you want to study at university
-
An apprenticeship or training path
-
Or simply say you’re still exploring your options
We ask this so we can offer helpful advice on your subject choices. It’s perfectly fine if you’re unsure — most applicants are! Just share whatever ideas you have right now.
💡 Final Thought
This part of your application isn’t about being perfect — it’s about helping us understand who you are and what motivates you. Be yourself, and don’t worry if you don’t have everything figured out yet.
