Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake

Our students attended Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake at the Birmingham Hippodrome in February. It was a captivating experience for our dance students; seeing the work of one of their named practitioners on stage rather watching than a recording, made it much more engaging. The students were inspired by the innovative choreography and emotive performances, sparking lively discussions about Bourne’s reimagining of the classical work, and the themes and cultural references he explored. The Subject Leader appreciated seeing their students’ enthusiasm and the educational value of the performance, which highlighted the importance of exposing young dancers to live performances.
