In October, we took a group of our Year 13 politics students to the Conservative party conference. Coming shortly after the election loss this was very different to any other conference we had visited. Rather than focusing on the party, this whole conference was focused around the four prospective contenders for the leadership and one highlight of the day for the students was attending hour long Q&A sessions with Robert Jenrick and James Cleverly. As well as meeting political beasts such as Tom Tugendhat, Iain Duncan Smith and Jacob Rees-Mogg students also spoke to well known broadcasters such as Robert Peston, Emily Maitlis and Lewis Goodall. Students were able to participate in a recording of the Telegraph politics podcast and some were interviewed for a segment on BBC Radio 5 live about how young people viewed the prospective leaders. A nice touch to the day was meeting some of our former politics students starting to make their way in politics.
