Since the College closed on 20 March 2020, our community has undergone significant change. We have all had to learn to adapt quickly to new ways of working, sometimes in the face of frustrating challenges. I have seen the best of our community during these difficult times: people helping and supporting each other in myriad ways. This is very heartening and it highlights to me the real vibrancy of our community. People. It’s the people that matter:  my wonderful colleagues and our amazing students.

In learning to adapt to change, we come face to face with our own strengths and weaknesses. How agile are we in learning quickly how to do new things and adapt to a new context? This is the challenge we all share, staff and students alike. It is not easy.  The most important thing we can remember to do is to be kind to ourselves and to each other. Give ourselves time. Reach out to others if you can help. Don’t wait to ask for help. Help is there for you. We are here for you. We are all in this together and we need to pull together. This is how we can stoke our motivation during these tough times. Let’s be here for each other, particularly when the going gets tough.

I am delighted and humbled by the effort and determination that our summer commendation award recipients have demonstrated during this difficult time. Congratulations! The following students have been awarded a summer commendation for excellent commitment to work and engagement with on-line lessons during COVID-19 lockdown:
