Jess is currently a Year 13 student at King Ed’s, and has ambitions to pursue a career in psychology and mental health. In order to gain work experience, Jess currently works at her old High School, St Michael’s CE High School in Rowley Regis as a Student Voice Ambassador.
Student Voice is a group of over 100 student volunteers who are passionate about peer education, community outreach, and raising awareness about mental health. Specifics of Jess’ role include running the radio show “UnMuted” on Black Country Xtra and leading a group called Project ID, which provides a safe space for LGBTQ+ young people.
His Royal Highness Prince William visited the school, and Jess had the opportunity to discuss the project with him. Jess says of this experience “I am thrilled that our work has been acknowledged at such a high level; it was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. The students, myself and the group leader, Kerry, are so passionate about what we do, and I believe this is the reason for such prestigious recognition. It just goes to show that if you work hard and aim for the stars, anything is possible!”
