On 19 Feburary, one of our talented students attended the National Cipher Challenge Awards Ceremony at Bletchley Park, marking their fourth consecutive year of reaching the ceremony. This year, they achieved remarkable success by winning a gold medal, the Alan Turing Prize, and a £1000 cheque.

The day began with tea and coffee in the reception room, followed by free time to explore Bletchley Park. Our student visited the National Radio Centre, having recently obtained their radio licence. A special lunch was held for the gold medallists before the main ceremony, which featured two guest speakers and the medal presentations. Although a photo of the presentation couldn’t be taken due to the GCHQ presenter’s anonymity, the experience was memorable.

Our student had engaging conversations with the GCHQ representative, University of Southampton attendees, and fellow Maths Olympiad participants. They appreciated the blend of historical and modern architecture at Bletchley Park, with the ceremony held in the new Fellowship Auditorium, a modern building connected to the refurbished WW2 ‘sheds’.

We are incredibly proud of our student’s achievements and look forward to their future successes.
