The Process
Application Timeline:
Tuesday 10 December – Applications being accepted.
Thursday 16 January – Nominations deadline.
Thursday 23 January – Shortlist announced.
Wednesday 29 January – Social media campaign video to be submitted.
Friday 31 January – Student campaigning to commence.
Thursday 6 February – Husting 12.30 pm in Chambers.
Thursday 6 February – Tuesday 25 February – Voting will take place electronically via Microsoft Forms.
Wednesday 26 February – Results published via email to all students.
Thursday 27 February – Shadow SU to start attending meeting.
Thursday 3 April – New SU to take full control.
Rules of the election
- Nominations must be submitted by Thursday 16th January 4pm. All applications should be completed via Microsoft Office Forms.
- Each nominee must be sponsored by two other students a member of staff and your Personal Tutor should be aware of your application.
- Your application will be vetted by the supervising staff of the Student Union and your attendance and achievement, as well as feedback from academic staff will be considered.
Social Media Campaign – Wednesday 29 January
- Each nominee will be contacted by the supervising staff of the Student Union if they are going through to the next stage. Attendees will be informed via email by 4.00 pm on Thursday 23 January.
- Each nominee who is invited will be asked to create a social media reel / virtual presentation for fellow students. The presentation should last for no longer than 1 minute, once received and approved all videos will be uploaded to the student union social media channels.If you would like advice on this, please contact the student union on studentunion@kedst.ac.uk.
- Your reel / presentation should be submitted via email to studentunion@kedst.ac.uk
- If you do not submit a reel / presentation you will be automatically withdrawn from the election.
- After submitting the presentation candidates will have the opportunity to run an election campaign.
Election campaign – IMPORTANT!
- Any campaign arrangements and material (posters) must be authorised by the supervising staff of the Student Union who can be contacted via studentunion@kedst.ac.uk
- Posters must only be placed in the Student Lounge and the Foley canteen. Posters must not be put up in any other spaces or outside college grounds. You must also remember to take down any posters that you put up.
- You may provide campaign materials for the student union social media accounts. This will be the only virtual campaigning which you are allowed to do.
- Do not use your own social media account. Campaign materials for social media should be sent to the supervising staff of the Student Union via email studentunion@kedst.ac.uk
- You must not disparage other candidates in your campaign or campaign outside college – this includes Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and any other social media platforms!
- Unsuitable material will be taken down, noted, and will disqualify you from the campaign.
- You are reminded that you must not send emails to all students. This will result in your email account being suspended and is against the acceptable computer use policy.
- Voting will take place Thursday 6 – Tuesday 25 February electronically.
- Students will be informed of how to access the vote online as well as your reel.
- The outcome of the voting will be published to the student body on Wednesday 26 February
