On Wednesday 11 June, the Film and Media department at King Edward VI College had the privilege of hosting esteemed guests Jim and Jane Swire and Peter Biddulph. Jim and Jane Swire tragically lost their daughter Flora in the Lockerbie plane crash in 1988 and have spent years campaigning for justice for the victims of the disaster. Alongside the campaign Peter and Jim spent 20 years researching and creating the now best selling book “Lockerbie: A father’s search for truth”. The book has now been turned into in five part drama for Sky TV, with Colin Firth starring as Jim Swire and Catherine MacCormick as Jane Swire.

The session facilitated by the department enabled 22 students to explore sections of the text to illustrate how they were adapted for screen. Students were able to create screenplays and storyboards creatively with feedback from our guests. They also participated in a question-and-answer session with Jim, Jane, and Peter and were given a book to take home. Members of college staff also had the opportunity to come and meet our guests and Alex Corbett (film teacher)commented: “It was a privilege and a humbling experience to work with such notable individuals and to deliver this unique masterclass for our students.”
