King Edward VI College offers a diverse range of student awards and bursaries, supporting enrichment, education, and personal growth. Opportunities include substantial funding through the Roy and Community Service Awards for charitable work at home or abroad, the Water Street Fund for overcoming barriers to education or training, and the Fred Austin Bursary—offering £3,000 annually for university study. Roy/Community Services Awards – Year 12 and Year 13
The Roy Award is enabled by an endowment left to the Foundation Trustees by the late Dr Dilip Kumar Roy. The award is to be given in the form of a bursary to enable a student to undertake charitable works or to assist a charity in a practical way either in the UK or, preferably, abroad. Examples of which could involve a placement in a hospital, school or village in an area or country that would benefit from support.
Community Service award (at home or abroad) This bursary has enabled students to become involved in valuable service to communities around the world and in this country for example helping children in orphanages, working on sports projects and community events, working in hospitals overseas and a full range of other valuable, life changing work.
Eligibility This is open to students planning a gap year (Y13) or a student planning a summer activity (Y12)
How do I get involved The award is a competitive event involving an application process and an interview/presentation to a selection panel
Amounts Awarded In previous years – Up to £10,000 for the Roy Award and up to £2,500 for the community service awards. Usually the Roy Award is awarded to one student and the community service award can be split amongst students.

Water Street Fund – Year 13
The Water Street Fund is a small grant (typically between £250 and £1000) awarded to assist students facing financial or social barriers to progressing in education or training. This supports a wide range of pathways including higher education, apprenticeships, and specialist courses, helping recipients overcome obstacles such as equipment costs or qualification gaps.
Eligibility:
• Year 13 students facing financial or social barriers
• Clear plan for future study, training, or employment
Process:
• Nominated by Lead/Personal Tutors in January
• Selected students apply via a link in March
• Decisions made in April

Successful applicants are contacted in April
Fred Austin Bursary – Year 13
The Fred Austin Bursary is an annual Bursary offered by the Trustees of the Baylies Educational Foundation of up to £3000 to a student living in the Borough of Dudley. It is in memory of Mr Fred Austin who served as a Trustee of the Foundation for over forty years. Every College in Dudley are asked to nominate one candidate for Trustee selection. The bursary will be £3000 each year for the first three years of a student’s University Course.

Rotary Awards – Year 12 and Year 13
Each year, Stourbridge Rotary Club honour the memory of two former members, Henry Woodhouse and Harold Jay. They were both local men who left money to the club to be used to present bibles during an annual award service to outstanding students. It is a long standing custom to present bibles to a male and female student who have over the last year displayed outstanding service to either the college or the community in general.
Key dates
Students are nominated by a staff member January and are sent a formal award invite via outlook
Students attend a lunch/bible presentation accompanied by a staff member in March
Bhadeshia-Tran Advancement Award – Year 12
The Bhadeshia-Tran Advancement Award was created by alumni Maya Bhadeshia and Quang Tran to support talented and hardworking students at college, who face barriers to progress. The £1000 grant (awarded to two students each year) is designed to empower individuals with the potential to succeed, helping them overcome challenges and pursue ambitious educational pathways after college.
Eligibility
For female students and/or from a non-white background (This is to support underrepresented groups in education) who must demonstrate excellent academic performance or potential (Through grades, teacher recommendation, and a personal statement). The student must explain financial need or barriers to academic progress which their Personal Tutor must verify.

Applications are reviewed in June and successful candidates are notified also in June.
